Tottenham Hotspur star Pedro Porro has insisted he’s not even considered a move away from the club as they’ve battled to stay in the Premier League.
Mundo Deportivo report on comments from the 26-year-old today. He’s been speaking to Onda Cero Extremadura after being called up by Spain for the World Cup.
Tottenham celebrations
It’s been a week of double celebrations for the Tottenham fullback after he helped keep Spurs in the Premier League over the weekend.
A 1-0 win over Everton ensured that it was West Ham, not Spurs, who went down on the final day of the season. It capped a remarkable turnaround for Roberto de Zerbi’s side, who looked destined for the drop not long ago.
Porro then followed that up by being called up by Spain for their squad for the World Cup on Monday. It’s therefore set to be a busy summer for the full-back.
Tottenham are expected to completely overhaul their squad following a second successive 17th placed finish in the Premier League. Porro is one of the ones linked with a potential exit. He, though, insists that he’s not even thought about it.
“I have a contract with Tottenham,” he said.
“I haven’t even had time to glance over. We’ve been focused until the last minute. I don’t want to hear anything; I want to switch off and enjoy myself.”
World Cup focus
The defender now turns his attention to the World Cup, where he will be able to overcome his disappointment from two years ago.
The Tottenham man had hoped to be a part of the squad for Euro 2024. Instead, Spain elected to go with Dani Carvajal and Jesus Navas, leaving him at home.
It was a bitter disappointment for him, even more so as Spain went on to win the tournament. Now he’s excited to get his shot at the World Cup instead.
“It’s been very exciting,” he added.
“I’m very happy; I’ve been working for a long time for something like this to happen. I had a burning desire to do this; playing in the World Cup for your country is a dream come true.
“The manager has known me since the youth teams, and I’ve always had his confidence.”
