Leeds United men and ex-loanee in Wales squad for friendlies as Craig Bellamy makes plea to fans

Leeds United are once again well represented in the Wales squad for a pair of post-season friendlies and boss Craig Bellamy has issued a plea over tickets.

Wales are in action at home to Ghana on Tuesday June 2 at Cardiff City Stadium and will then travel to face Romania at Stadionul Steaua in Bucharest. Boss Craig Bellamy has included all four of Leeds’ senior Welsh internationals, namely Karl Darlow, Joe Rodon, Ethan Ampadu and Dan James.

The game against Ghana will form part of the Football Association of Wales’ 150th anniversary celebrations, but Bellamy has issued a plea for fans to attend with ticket sales going slowly. “The tickets are nowhere near where they have been,” he said. “We understand where families are at this present moment. I understand where we are financially, as people it’s not easy. But if you can afford to and you do have a little bit to spare please come and enjoy our game.”

Wales are looking to bounce back from the disappointment of missing out on a place in the World Cup. They were beaten on penalties in the play-off semi-final by Bosnia and Herzegovina. One of the good news stories for Bellamy in the first camp since the World Cup hopes ended, is the return of ex-Leeds loanee Connor Roberts. The Burnley defender has missed the entire 2025/26 through an Achilles injury. The unavailability of key men, including Whites winger James, is something Bellamy has had to get used to.

“It’s been a long time, I haven’t really had Connor,” said Bellay. “When I look through the squad it’s been that way, look at Dan James, one minute he’s been fit and then he hasn’t. We missed him this time last summer, especially Belgium away. Connor knows how we work, he’s a big, big help. His ability but also tactically, how aware he is. He’s definitely a coach on the pitch.”
