The youngster made Wolves history on the final day of the season.
Sunday’s draw with Burnley brought down to the curtain on Wolves’ eight season Premier League stay.
But for Jerome Abbey, it was a day he will never forget, as at the age of 16 and 250 days, he became the club’s youngster ever Premier League player.
In the process, he also became the second youngster player in the club’s history when he came off the bench at Turf Moor.
It was an historic day for the youngster, who came off the bench in the 74th minute to replace Adam Armstrong.
The England youth international hit the headlines earlier in the season when he was named on the bench. And now he has become the latest Wolves youngster to make his first team bow.
Rob Edwards paid tribute to Abbey after the game, and insisted the youngster can help inspire other academy talents to follow the same path.
And in a post on X, one of Abbey’s brothers revealed how it was a whirlwind few days for the young star, who went from the exam hall to the Premier League in the space of a few days.
Jez, who was a Wolves academy player before going on to forge a non-league career, explained that his younger brother was only doing a GCSE exam on Thursday, three days before his top flight debut.
He said: “History made! from doing your Year 11 GCSE’ English Lit exam on the Thursday …to your Premier League Debut on the Sunday.
“Congratulations to Jerome who made his @premierleague debut at the age of 16 years and 250 days and becoming the 15th youngest player in Premier League history, thankful for all the coaches who have been involved in this journey ..from joining @WolvesAcademy at 6 years old and 10’years later becoming @Wolves youngest ever Prem player is the stuff of dreams!”
The Wolves record breaker comes from a line of brothers who have come through the Wolves academy, with siblings Jez and Jed also spending time at Molineux.
Attacking midfielder Jez signed for AFC Telford United in the National League North having left Wolves - and featured for the Bucks' first team in between loan spells with Barwell, Rushall Olympic and Shifnal Town.
He went on to play for a handful of sides and last season he scored eleven goals for Alvechurch.
Elsewhere, Jed was at Wolves up to under 18s before also featuring for a handful of non-league sides including South Shields. He was most recently with north west outfit Marine.
