Fulham manager Marco Silva could not resist a cheeky dig at Newcastle United following Sunday’s game.
Marco Silva highlighted the money Newcastle United have spent following Fulham's 2-0 win at Craven Cottage.
However, the 48-year-old was careless with the facts, claiming the Magpies had players worth £70million and £80million in their team and bench. In truth, Nick Woltemade - who cost £64million - is the only Toon star who fits that bracket.
Sandro Tonali, Yoane Wissa and Anthony Elanga cost £55million each and were Newcastle’s most expensive substitutes. By contrast, Fulham’s club-record signing, Brazilian forward Kevin, cost £35million.

Marco Silva fires money dig
Cottagers boss Silva emphasised the contrast between the two teams’ valuations - albeit exaggerating the point. He said post-match: “We won, and we deserved to. More balance in the first half, second half much more in control, sometimes not on the ball, but much more control. Go back and see how many games we had more than 20 shots, and this game is just an example.
“After the 2-0, with the moments that we had, we should have scored more goals. We should be more clinical, because it’s what makes you win football matches, what makes you ruthless in the league that we are playing in, the level that we are playing.
“Against a Newcastle side, I don’t want to compare, but when I look at their substitutions and I see players from the XI go out (worth) £60million, £70million, £80million and players to go in (on the bench) £60million and £70million, it just speaks about sometimes the difference on the paper that is there.”
‘Disappointing’ - Eddie Howe
Eddie Howe also admitted that Newcastle deserved to lose at the full-time whistle. He said: "It was a disappointing performance from us. For a whole host of reasons we weren't quite at the level we needed to be.
“There were some promising bits but by and large I think Fulham deserved to win. We weren't a big enough goal threat in the game, I don't think we defended with enough solidity, we weren't quite right. We tried to change things numerous times in the game but I think it was more of a mental problem than anything else.”
