Fer Lopez joined Wolves last summer before leaving on loan.
Fer Lopez is expected to be part of Wolves’ Championship squad despite links to another move away, the Express & Star understands.
The 22-year-old joined Wolves last summer in a £19.5million deal from Spanish side Celta Vigo, but after making just 12 appearances in all competitions and just two Premier League starts, he was sent back to his former club on loan in January.
That deal was a loan until the end of the season, without an option to buy, but reports in Spain have claimed the attacker could return to Celta Vigo for next season.
It is understood that Wolves are currently planning for Lopez to return to the club this summer and form part of next season’s squad, as they bid for an instant return to the Premier League.
The club and head coach Rob Edwards are prepared to give the young attacker an opportunity to impress in pre-season and currently have no plans to sell him or send him back out on loan.
That is despite Celta Vigo’s sporting director Marco Garces saying the club will attempt to bring Lopez back to Spain for the 2026/27 campaign.
He said: “From our perspective, it’s up to us to make every possible effort.
“To try and find those options, get creative, and explore possibilities until the summer is over.”
Lopez scored against Red Star Belgrade in the Europa League on his first game back at Celta Vigo, while he scored once in La Liga in a 3-2 win at Valencia.
Celta Vigo finished sixth in La Liga and will compete in the Europa League again next season.
Lopez came through at the Spanish side before enjoying a breakthrough into the first team in the second half of the 2024/25 season, scoring four times in 20 appearances before joining Wolves.
After returning to Spain earlier this season, the player admitted he was not ready for English football when he signed for Wolves.
“It was a combination of things,” he said.
“Maybe the team’s style of play didn’t suit me very well; their style was a bit different from the football we play here.
“Perhaps I wasn’t entirely ready to play in England because it’s a very physical league, different from the Spanish league, and maybe I needed more time, more minutes to gradually ease into the role, but unfortunately, I didn’t get them.”
