Leeds United’s immediate Elland Road redevelopment action can be seen in a new video taken from the skies.
The Whites are ploughing ahead with work towards their stadium redevelopment plan, which was granted planning permission earlier this year and will eventually take the capacity to around 53,000. Leeds plan to build a new West Stand and then turn their attention to the North Stand in order to modernise the ground and accommodate a rapacious desire for tickets from a vast fanbase.
Almost as soon as the last home game of the season had finished, work was underway on immediate changes to the current West Stand environment. Journalists were asked to vacate the media room under the stand by 7pm in order for some of that work to begin. And a new video, posted on the CC Overview YouTube channel which specialises in stadium expansions and environmental issues, has shown how the landscape has already changed. Gone are the Portakabins that have housed away teams on their visits to Elland Road and acted as dressing rooms for Championship and Premier League outfits alike. The cabins were supplied by York firm Britcab prior to the first season back in the top flight during Marcelo Bielsa’s managerial reign as Leeds attempted to navigate the Covid safety restrictions, but they remained in place ever since. Last week the cabins were returned to Britcab’s lab.
Another change visible in the drone video was the partial demolition of the ticket office and building that housed some of the LUTV operations. The floodlights had come down. And crests have been taken off the banqueting suite at the rear of the West Stand. A temporary structure behind the North Stand, which is expected to host corporate facilities during the works, was already going up before the end of the season.
