Dennis Cirkin has provided an update after an ongoing wrist issue following Sunderland’s historic season.
Dennis Cirkin has shared pictures from hospital after undergoing surgery on a long-term wrist issue.
The Sunderland defender posted an update on social media showing himself in a hospital bed with his arm in a sling, alongside another picture of what appeared to be metalwork that had been removed as part of the procedure. Cirkin captioned the post: “Metal out, on the mend #wristtape4life.”
The 24-year-old was named on the bench against Chelsea as Sunderland secured European football for the first time since 1973-74 with a remarkable final-day win at the Stadium of Light. The issue has been ongoing since last season in the Championship, with Cirkin wearing protection on his wrist for a lengthy period.
He has endured another frustrating campaign on the injury front, making just eight Premier League appearances as Sunderland finished seventh and sealed a place in the Europa League. Cirkin remains a hugely popular figure with supporters after playing an important role in the club’s rise from League One to the Premier League. He joined Sunderland from Tottenham Hotspur in 2021 and was part of the side that won promotion from League One under Alex Neil.
He then went on to become one of the club’s standout performers in the Championship, producing a series of strong displays and memorable goals before injuries disrupted his progress. Cirkin’s future remains uncertain this summer, with his contract situation one to watch as Sunderland prepare for another major campaign that will include both Premier League and Europa League football.
