Liverpool face a Barcelona and Bayern Munich battle to sign Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon in the summer.
Mohamed Salah has left Liverpool and there’s been claims of Federico Chiesa wanting to leave Anfield. Hugo Ekitiké suffered a serious injury in April and will be out for a long spell.
This leaves Arne Slot with Alexander Isak, Chiesa, Cody Gakpo and Rio Ngumoha as the options for striker and wide positions.
The Reds will look to improve their attack in the upcoming window and have the Magpies forward on their list.
Gordon had a spell at Liverpool’s academy before leaving them for Everton in 2012. The latter sold him to Eddie Howe’s side in January 2023.
Liverpool keen on Newcastle attacker
Bayern Munich have been pursuing a deal for Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon. Last week, their sporting director, Max Eberl, confirmed conversations with him. Liverpool are also keen on signing the player.
Both the Merseyside club and the Bundesliga winners’ interest in the signing is on the front page of today’s Mundo Deportivo, with [Barcelona’s] ‘advance for Gordon’ written in bold.
Within the report, the newspaper covers Barcelona’s interest in the left winger, who can also operate as a No.9 and on the right wing.
Barca sporting director Deco was in London to discuss a deal for Chelsea’s João Pedro. During his time in England, the official also worked on signing the 25-year-old.
Liverpool have already joined Bayern Munich in the race for the England international and even made a ‘strong push’ in recent days.
Barcelona are also very interested, and Deco’s latest trip tip the scales in their favour.
In fact, he favours a move to the Camp Nou over joining the Reds or the Bavarian club. Gordon is also willing to make an effort, making his salary demand affordable for the La Liga winners.
However, Barcelona have no intention of meeting Newcastle United’s €85-90m price. This should give Arne Slot’s side and Bayern Munich hope to try and sign him.
