Newcastle ‘ready to capitalise’ on flop of the season – Surprise bid from Magpies could be on way

Newcastle United have Juventus’ Jonathan David on their list for the summer.

The striker joined the Serie A side on a free transfer in July 2025, after five years at Lille, managing 109 goals and 31 assists from 232 matches.

In his debut season in Italy, David scored eight goals and contributed five assists from 46 matches. This includes only one goal for Juventus since February 1st.

He still managed to attract interest from the Premier League, where Newcastle United are in the picture.

On March 9th, we covered claims from Italy that Aston Villa are keen on signing him. Last month, Nottingham Forest and West Ham United emerged as his options. The source said the Old Lady are requesting between €25-30m.

Two weeks ago, Sport Witness relayed news the Europa League winners remain in the hunt for the Canada international.

Newcastle United join transfer chase

Eddie Howe’s side have become the latest English club to have set their sights on the 26-year-old.

That’s according to Tutto Juve, who state Newcastle United are pursuing Jonathan David after his difficult season.

Despite his 13 G/A contribution, the outlet says the Canada international didn’t meet expectations and label him as a ‘season flop’.

The Magpies are ‘ready to capitalise’ on his situation at the Turin club, to bring him to St. James’ Park. They value the frontman’s profile and qualities and are optimistic he can regain his best form in the Premier League.

Therefore, Newcastle United are making moves to find out the finances of the potential operation.

Tutto Juve, who make it clear it’s their own report, mention ‘surprise bid’ in the headline but don’t back it up within the report. It’s possible the English club’s offer could be on the way.

Juventus won’t close the door on his exit as long as there’s an adequate offer. However, the report makes no mention of their demand.

Contract, value and agent info

Jonathan David’s contract runs down in 2030, and Transfermarkt value him at €35m.

Agency Axia Sports Management, owned by agent Nick Mavromaras, are representing the Canadian.
