‘Discussions underway’ – Aston Villa optimistic of positive outcome for signing, ready to offer €40m

Aston Villa have been chasing Paris Saint-Germain’s Ibrahim Mbaye ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

The UK media have already reported the Europa League winners’ interest in the 18-year-old.

On April 3rd, Sport Witness covered claims from France of Aston Villa’s growing interest.

The forward came up through the ranks of the Ligue 1 winners’ academy and made his way into their first team in 2024.

He’s played 42 matches of which 30 are from this season, managing three goals and two assists. The France-born Senegal international hasn’t enjoyed regular game time since returning from AFCON in January.

Aston Villa keen on young attacker

Despite this, Ibrahim Mbaye managed to attract interest from Aston Villa and other clubs.

That’s according to Top Mercato, who provide their own information, after relaying a claim made in the UK about Aston Villa.

They state ‘discussions are underway’ between Aston Villa and the youngster’s agent over a potential move. The Villans haven’t found an agreement yet.

Unai Emery’s side are ready to offer €40m and are ‘confident of a positive outcome’ for the same figure.

The player, for his part, is open to leaving Luis Enrique’s side in the upcoming window. However, Top Mercato are not aware of the French club’s stance on sanctioning a move.

Enrique believes Mbaye lacks intensity since returning from AFCON. With Aston Villa ready to submit a €40m bud, they could tempt PSG to sell the player.

The English club are stepping up their efforts and even though they seem confident, the final decision will be down to the Paris club.

Our take: Ibrahim Mbaye is good option for Villans

Leon Bailey and Alysson were the two right wingers at Aston Villa this seaosn, and the latter played 47 minutes in the Premier Legue. The Villans also need a left winger as Jadon Sancho, on loan from Manchester United, is unlikely to continue.

Ibrahim Mbaye’s preferred role is on the right side of the attacker and can also operate as a left winger.

The PSG player can be a good option for Unai Emery’s side. If he were to join them, he can initially start as a backup for both wide positions.

Transfermarkt value the attacker, who has a contract until 2028, at €30m.
