Wolves regular offers advice to senior debutant

Jerome Abbey made his Wolves debut at the weekend.

Mateus Mane has revealed he gave advice to fellow teenager Jerome Abbey before he made his senior Wolves debut.

The midfielder became Wolves’ youngest ever Premier League player, and second youngest in the club’s history, at 16 years, eight months and eight days when he came off the bench against Burnley.

Mane, who made the step up from the academy this season to become a first team regular, says he offered Abbey some words of wisdom before the game.

He said: “It was a great opportunity for him. I told him before the game to be ready because you never know what could happen.

“The manager could trust you and put you on, and he did that. But I felt that when he came on, he did very well, so well done to him.”

Wolves ended the season with a draw at Burnley, meaning they finished the Premier League campaign bottom of the table and without a single victory on the road.

Mane was disappointed with Wolves’ second half display as they threw away their 1-0 lead.

“Before the game we went into it wanting to win, of course, we wanted to win, but it was a tough day, a hot day, as well, so I feel like we battled and we fought,” Mane said.

“But in the second half, we started a bit slow, and during the game, it turned into a game of basketball, with the ball going back and forth, but I felt like we tried our best and we gave our all.”
