Nottingham Forest ace Elliot Anderson could be at the centre of a transfer tug-of-war as the summer window approaches.

The England international is a man in demand after a sterling season with the Reds. Head coach Vitor Pereira would love to keep hold of him but has stopped short of guaranteeing the midfielder will still be at the City Ground next term.

The likelihood is Anderson will move on, with Manchester City considered favourites for his signature. However, it seems Manchester United have not yet given up hope of luring him to Old Trafford.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano (via TEAMtalk) has said: “Manchester City also keep pushing to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest. They are aware of Manchester United still calling and calling, but Manchester City are still pushing.”

Pep Guardiola’s departure as City manager is not expected to have an impact on the club’s pursuit of Anderson, with Enzo Maresca in line to take up the hot seat. Various reports have suggested the 23-year-old favours a move to the Etihad Stadium over their Manchester rivals.

Romano added: “They (City) made already some approaches because they want to offer a really important contract to the player. So, Man City believe they can really tempt Elliot Anderson, and then this has not changed.

“Also with Enzo Maresca, City are going for Anderson; it’s not only with Guardiola. Now with Maresca, City are still going for him. Let’s see what happens with Nottingham Forest, with Man United still trying and calling.”

TEAMtalk claim personal terms between Anderson and City have already been “agreed in principle”. But there could yet be a sticking point regarding any potential move.

City are said to be eager to get a deal for the Reds star wrapped up before the World Cup begins on June 11. However, talkSPORT have reported a valuation gap exists between the two clubs - although it is added neither Manchester club have yet “been quoted a price”.

City are said to have held verbal talks with Forest but “a gulf” exists between the latter’s price tag and what their Premier League counterparts feel the player is worth. The Reds want upwards of £100 million for Anderson while the FA Cup winners apparently value him at £80m.

Forest will be aware that if their prized asset performs well at the World Cup, it will only increase his value. If it comes to it, owner Evangelos Marinakis is said to be ready to personally oversee any discussions regarding an exit for the former Newcastle United man.

Asked about Anderson’s future after Sunday’s season finale against Bournemouth, which finished 1-1, Pereira said: "I don't have the answer. If you ask me if he deserves the best clubs in the world, he deserves.

“He has a lot of quality. He is a talent. But he is our player and I am very happy with him.

“The market is the market, I cannot predict the market. I know we want to keep the same players, to bring two or three players to help us balance the squad. In the end, we'll see."
