“We’ve done really well in recent years to get to the Champions League and reach the quarter-final against PSG,” he explained in an interview with Sky Sports News.
“Then we had a really good go in the Conference League, reaching the semi-finals before just missing out.
“But this year, we didn’t want to just get to a final. To do so well and beat Nottingham Forest in the semi-final, but not win would’ve been gutting.
“So we were fully focused. We knew how big it was and the cause that was at stake.
“We had to do it. We had to make sure that we were committed because the club deserves it and the fans deserve it.
“Hopefully now, this is a building block to carry on going.”

Glory in the Europa League also represented the first piece of major silverware in Cash’s career at the age of 28.
The Polish international has spent the past six seasons at Villa Park - scoring 13 goals in 229 appearances across all competitions.
He has been at the heart of the club’s rise under Unai Emery: qualifying for the Champions League in 2024, where they went on to reach the quarter-final, before bowing out to eventual champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Villa won seven of their eight Europa League games in the league phase this season and dumped out French side Lille and Italian outfit Bologna en route to the semi-finals.
They then overturned a 1-0 deficit against Nottingham Forest with a memorable 4-0 victory in the second leg at Villa Park.
And following that latest success, Cash added: “When you win a trophy, it’s something that can never get taken away from you.
“And also, to do it the way that we have. We’ve progressed a lot over the last few years and the fans deserve it because they’re amazing.
“Thankfully we gave it to them and we had a good party as well.”
