Leeds United player identified ‘top priority target’ – Farke’s decision means summer transfer inevitable

Sevilla are ready to open their door for Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier in the summer window.

Odysseas Vlachodimos, on loan from Newcastle United, has been the No.1 for Sevilla this season, with Ørjan Nyland as his backup.

The La Liga side want to retain Vlachodimos, but the deal isn’t financially feasible. Nyland will also leave when his contract expires in June.

It forces the Spanish club to look for a new stopper, and this is where the Leeds United player comes into the picture.

Player to leave Leeds United

Orgullo Biri report Sevilla have identified Illan Meslier as their ‘top priority target’ for the summer.

The 26-year-old arrived at Elland Road from Lorient in 2019 and waited several months to cement his place. He was the No.1 for the Whites until the end of last season.

Daniel Farke didn’t consider the stopper as he finished the season without making a single appearance. Three months ago, there were concerns in France over his disappearance at the Premier League side.

The Frenchman’s contract expires on June 30th. This, coupled with Farke’s decision to not utilise him means his summer exit seems inevitable. The English club also accept he will leave as a free agent.

Sevilla want to take advantage of this to sign Meslier for free as he meets what they are looking for in a new stopper. In short, this is a ‘golden opportunity’ for the Spanish club.

Beşiktaş already looked at the Frenchman in the winter market and could now provide serious competition to Sevilla. Therefore, the latter must act quickly in order to find an agreement on personal terms, signing on bonus and agent fee.

Leeds United man could take time

With a future away from Leeds United, the goalkeeper has to decide his next destination.

Illan Meslier can play in La Liga with Sevilla, who finished 13th in the table and missed out on the European competition.

On the other hand, Beşiktaş have made it to the Europa League qualifiers. However, they aren’t in the top five European leagues.

He could wait to find out if more clubs will come forward to acquire his signature before making a decision.
