Former Leeds United star Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has warned his ex-club that their toughest challenge still lies ahead. Leeds secured their Premier League position for next season with three games of the past campaign remaining, ensuring it was a celebratory and not nervy finish to the season for Daniel Farke's men.

It capped a great first year back in the top flight that included reaching an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley. Leeds will now begin their preparations for the new campaign as they set about strengthening their squad in the summer.

New faces are needed and some old ones will no doubt be departing too, as Leeds look to take the next step forward in establishing themselves for the long term back in the Premier League. Chairman Paraag Marathe spoke about just that this week, with a sensible and measured approach to the transfer window as part of a three-year plan to cement Leeds in the top flight.

Doing just that will be harder than upsetting the odds to stay up this year, according to Hasselbaink, who has warned Leeds to not get too carried away after a successful season.

Speaking to [Flashscore](https://zwly9k6z.r.us-east-1.awstrack.me/L0/https:%2F%2Fwww.flashscore.co.uk%2F/1/0100019e65ced671-1d630025-ac1e-4a57-ba47-d2eb016bb0aa-000000/MwSD-5CVopdcKsF2w9Y52zcFX1g=473) about the job Farke has done this season, Hasselbaink discussed the challenge ahead. He said; "I’ve been very impressed with him.

"Normally, Farke doesn’t change tactics much, but after the Manchester City game he switched things up, and it gave them a better platform; they never looked back. They even made the FA Cup semi-finals, which was great.

"But the biggest thing was just staying in the Premier League. Now they’ve done that, Farke can build for the next few years. Typically, it’s the second and third seasons that are toughest after promotion, so they need to strengthen and stay stable. Farke’s done absolutely magnificently this year.".
