Former CEO makes big new Liverpool manager claim after "making some calls"

**Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness has provided an update on Liverpool potentially hiring Andoni Iraola this summer, after “making some calls.”**

Arne Slot’s future at Anfield is an ongoing big talking point, with the Dutchman qualifying for the Champions League last weekend, which isn’t much to shout about.

But as things stand, it looks as though the Dutchman will cling on to his job this summer, which is sure to leave plenty of Liverpool supporters frustrated.

Speaking to [_Football Insider_](https://www.footballinsider247.com/andoni-iraola-to-liverpool-verdict-as-arne-slot-sack-decision-made-ive-made-some-calls/), Wyness claimed that Iraola is looking more likely to move to AC Milan currently, but a switch to Anfield looks off the table, especially as Slot appears to be staying on:

_“It now seems to be AC Milan coming to the fore as his preferred option. I’ve been making some calls this morning, but I haven’t heard if that’s true or not. Liverpool, obviously, would be an attraction to him. But I think this would be a difficult situation for Liverpool to start changing managers so early. It would only be after two seasons of Slot._

_“That’s not really quite the Liverpool style. So I tend to think they’re going to stay with him. But I’d say that may be because of the lack of a really suitable replacement that they’d be looking for, rather than anything else._

_“There’s a case to be made both ways, but it’s going to be a difficult decision, and Slot has certainly got to start next season well if he’s there. Otherwise, he’ll be crying for his head very, very quickly.”_

**Andoni Iraola: The one that got away for Liverpool?**

Iraola was a dream choice to replace Slot for many fans, having superbly guided Bournemouth into the European places this season, playing exciting attacking football.

Sadly, it looks as though any hope of him being the Reds’ next boss has gone, though, which could end up looking foolish should Slot fail to turn things around in the early months of next season.

The hope is that the Dutchman masterminds a turnaround – if he does, that is fantastic for everyone concerned – but it’s fair to say that there isn’t much faith in that happening.

A superb summer in the transfer market is a must, and key players must improve, and we will then hopefully see a very different Liverpool team.
