“Unpredictable and dangerous” West Ham star’s inclusion for World Cup gets positive reaction

**[West Ham United](https://sportwitness.co.uk/west-ham-united/) star Crysencio Summerville’s inclusion in the Netherlands squad has been warmly welcome by his former coach, Alfons Groenendijk.**

[Voetbal Primeur cover comments from him today](https://www.voetbalprimeur.nl/nieuws/2093940/enthousiasme-om-wk-oproep-summerville-bij-oranje.html) made in an interview with De Telegraaf after Summerville was included in the Netherlands squad by Ronald Koeman.

**West Ham star**

The Dutch winger is in the squad for the World Cup this summer following an impressive campaign in which the 24-year-old managed five goals and four assists in 31 Premier League games this season.

He was undoubtedly the Hammers best player this season and, mostly blameless for their eventual relegation to the Championship.

Indeed, his performance at the turn of the year, when he scored in four straight games, had given West Ham hope in their battle against relegation.

It’s been a real season of development for the 24-year-old, although Groenendijk knows all about his talent.

“As a coach, I had the privilege of giving him his Eredivisie debut. You always follow guys you’ve worked with or given their debut to with extra interest,” he said.

“He already had something special at ADO. That kid has a cheeky streak in his game. He has guts and believes in his own abilities. It’s fun to watch him.”

**“Unpredictable and dangerous”**

---------------------------------

The winger has managed to bounce back at West Ham following a difficult first year following his arrival from Leeds United. He had previously established himself as the standout performer for the Whites in the Championship.

And Groenendijk believes that he now has a locked full of talents that make him a special player.

“And he has retained those special qualities on the ball. He really has weapons. Scoring ability, he can go around the outside and inside,” he added.

“He is so incredibly fast. And with the ball at his feet, he is almost faster than without the ball. On top of that, he has a dribbling move that is almost unstoppable. You rarely see that in football anymore.”

And he thinks that there’s one particular talent that makes the West Ham winger unpredictable and dangerous, his versatility.

“Cryscencio can play in both positions, but I find him most dangerous when he comes from the left,” he concluded.

“At West Ham, he had the freedom to switch sides during the match. That makes him even more unpredictable and dangerous.”
