The North East rivals have been linked with a move for a West Ham United star following their relegation from the Premier League.
Sunderland and Newcastle United have reportedly shown interest in securing a cut-price deal for a West Ham United star following their relegation from the Premier League.
The Black Cats are currently assessing their options ahead of another crucial summer transfer window and there will be a need to ensure there is added depth to Regis Le Bris’ squad after he guided the club into European competition for only the second time in their history. A Europa League campaign that could bring meetings with the likes of Marseille, AC Milan and Juventus will place added strain on the Black Cats ranks - although it is quality, rather than quantity, that will be at the top of the list of priorities for the Stadium of Light hierarchy when it comes to new additions.
TeamTalk have reported Sunderland are one of a number of clubs that have ‘expressed interest’ in West Ham United full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka after the Hammers were unable to avoid relegation into the Championship on the final day of the Premier League season. The former Manchester United full-back is an international team-mate of Black Cats midfielder Noah Sadiki and both players have been named in the DR Congo squad for this summer’s World Cup finals in North America.
However, Wan-Bissaka will prepare for the tournament amid speculation over his future at the London Stadium as the Hammers deal with the financial fallout of their relegation from the top flight. Several key players have already been linked with moves away from the club and Wan-Bissaka is the latest to be suggested as a target for a whole host of Premier League clubs. The report claims the Hammers hierarchy are keen to move on a number of their big earners and states both Tottenham Hotspur and Everton have already signalled their intent to pursue a deal worth around £10million.
However, Sunderland, Newcastle United and Fulham are also reportedly keen on the 28-year-old - with the Black Cats interest said to ‘reflect the club’s ambition following their successful return to the top flight’.
