Leeds United could earn millions as PL transfer domino effect starts to emerge – View

Leeds United smartly added sell-on clause to Charlie Cresswell’s Toulouse, and this summer could see us reap the rewards.

United’s summer window in 2024, after losing the playoff final, felt like blow after blow. Losing three star players and a couple of serious talents for the future was tough to take.

Ironically, the one that’s done the best of the lot from that departing group was Charlie Cresswell. He left for just £3.8million to Toulouse, but has kicked on superbly ever since.

Leeds United hold 15% sell-on clause in Charlie Cresswell’s Toulouse contract

As we’re reminded of Leeds’ add-on bonus included in Crysencio Summerville’s West Ham contract, pertaining to a full Netherlands debut, Cresswell could also earn Leeds more than the initial fee.

The YEP have previously reported that Leeds hold a sell-on clause in Cresswell’s contract. That clause entitles Leeds to 15% of the profit made by Toulouse, when they eventually decide to sell him.

A previous England U21 international, the 23-year-old has proven to be an inspired purchase by the Ligue 1 side. His aerial prowess has been a constant talking point, contributing with six league goals across the past two seasons, helping his side finish well clear of relegation trouble in mid-table.

Crystal Palace transfer knock-on could bring Leeds United the Charlie Cresswell sell-on windfall

So, this summer may well be the window where Leeds stand to profit even further from selling Cresswell to Toulouse.

Interest has been rife in the Thorp Arch graduate for the past 12 months, from European clubs and our Premier League rivals – namely West Ham, Crystal Palace and Brighton.

The Eagles, though, may be the team to watch this summer. As they kick off right now in the Conference League final, victory would see them head into the Europa League. And, they would look for further investment into their squad under whichever manager is appointed to replace Oliver Glasner.

Palace did attempt to sign Cresswell during the January window as Marc Guehi departed. Now, star centre-backs Maxence Lacroix and Jaydee Canvot could exit too.

Lacroix, per RMC Sport, is said to be set to leave. Meanwhile, Canvot has interest from Barcelona and PSG (L’Equipe), suggesting that he could be gone if the right money is offered to Palace.

In turn, that could trigger a domino effect that reignites Palace’s interest in Cresswell. For Leeds, that 15% of profit made by Toulouse is ideal.

Back in January, Toulouse knocked back an offer of £21.7million from Wolfsburg for Cresswell. Had that been accepted, it would have earned Leeds a cool £2.69million.

Should Toulouse aim to bring in more for the Englishman in the coming months, we could earn even more.
