Leeds United’s £10m World Cup star expected to attract summer interest – Report

Leeds United have been singing the praises of several summer signings made during the Premier League this season, including Gabriel Gudmundsson.

The 49ers knew that anything but a brilliant summer transfer window would make survival incredibly unlikely. That, plus Daniel Farke’s adaptability since late November has proven the perfect blend needed for survival.

Signings made in that summer window weren’t initially viewed by many as game-changers, but their quality immediately shone through.

Leeds United’s £10m Gabriel Gudmundsson transfer lauded by The Athletic – Summer exit offers expected

Of the signings Leeds made, it’s actually quite difficult to name the best of the bunch. However, one of the names surely in with a shout is Gabriel Gudmundsson.

It’s been a long time since Leeds had a full-back that’s not only terrific on the ball, but also a stalwart out of possession too. The Swede has been just as strong without the ball as he has been flying down the wing.

When ranking every Premier League transfer this season, The Athletic named Gudmundsson’s £10million move to Leeds an impressive 26th out of a total of 189.

“Hard to believe, given his attacking enthusiasm and ball-carrying ability, that he didn’t score (in the opposition net, there was one own-goal against Fulham in September) or provide an assist in the league,” the report states.

However, they also note that his performances are sure to alert some clubs to his services, ahead of the summer window.

“Great business for £10million, very dependable and will probably attract decent offers either this summer or next.”

Leeds United need to source youthful cover for Gabriel Gudmundsson at left-back

Gudmundsson has been an absolute revelation for us since he joined just under a year go. His thrust on the left has been vital to our success since changing to a back five.

He’s also been very reliable defensively in 1v1s as well, which is commendable for a wing-back covering ground the way he does.

This summer, though, we can’t continue having him as our only natural left-wing-back. We need another left-footer that would provide cover behind him.

Jayden Lienou could be an option in the future after a potential loan. But for now, Leeds could do with a backup signing that wouldn’t mind being second to Gudmundsson in the pecking order.

James Justin has been terrific, but there’s a clear difference when he plays on the left, because he’s right-footed and cannot get to the by-line.
