The Conference League final was stopped following a medical emergency

Crystal Palace's Conference League final against Rayo Vallencano was stopped for several minutes due to a medical emergency in the crowd.

The Eagles headed to Leipzig to take on the La Liga outfit in both clubs' first-ever European final. However, the game was stopped midway through the first-half with the match goalless when the referee was alerted to a problem in the Vallecano end.

Vallecano's goalkeeper Augusto Batalla sat on the pitch to get the referee's attention before he pointed to an incident in the stands. The referee halted the play with the Spanish club in possession in their own half.

Vallecano goalkeeper Augusto Batalla alerted the referee to the situation

Speaking on commentary for TNT Sports, Adam Summerton explained the worrying situation, saying: "What we're hearing is that there has been a medical emergency, sadly, amongst the Rayo Vallecano supporters. Understandable that the game has been paused for the moment here, that information coming across to Inigo Perez and Oliver Glasner.

"Of course Lucy (Ward), these are two clubs where the relationship with the players and fans is felt so keenly, noticed that following Palace this season and the Vallecas region in Madrid, them representing the neighbourhood means so much to the players."

The camera panned to show security and medical personnel in the stands attending to the situation. After a delay of a few minutes, the game was restarted.
