SC Freiburg’s Matthias Ginter claims Aston Villa are ‘almost on Bayern Munich’s level’

Okay, don’t get me wrong; Aston Villa is a fantastic side. They just won the Europa League, dominating SC Freiburg in a 3-0 demolition job. However, let’s not pretend like Bayern Munich isn’t in a different stratosphere altogether at the moment.

This Bayern side went toe to toe with the reigning UEFA Champions League champions, PSG. The team that is also in the finals this season and the favourite to win it again. Bayern Munich was one João Pinheiro away from completing a treble.

After the Europa League final, Matthias Ginter spoke to gianlucadimarzio.com (as covered by Birmingham Mail), stating that Aston Villa are “a team almost on Bayern’s level,” and that “they’d definitely be second or third. Maybe even higher. They’re a team with great quality and other resources.”

While it is indeed possible to concede that based solely on this season, Aston Villa could’ve finished third in the Bundesliga, it is a STRETCH to even suggest that the team could be close to Bayern Munich.

“Almost on Bayern’s level” is blasphemous. They absolutely are not almost on Bayern’s level.

In fact, the gulf in quality between Bayern Munich and Aston Villa is greater than that between Aston Villa and Freiburg. We leave it at that.
