Arsenal in discussions to land "unstoppable" £26m England star, he'd be better than Rogers -…

After winning the Premier League title, it's full steam ahead in the transfer window for Arsenal.

Speaking in the aftermath of celebrations on Sunday, co chairman Josh Kroenke said: "We’ve already had a few conversations about different areas that we think we can improve – both on and off the pitch. We are looking forward to getting that going this summer."

So, what's on the menu? Well, it would not be a surprise if the Gunners looked at bringing in a midfielder, despite the re-emergence of Myles Lewis-Skelly in the back end of the season.

Martin Zubimendi's fitness and form suggests he probably needs more competition, although Mikel Merino's return from injury will certainly help in that regard.

Another attacker could also be on the agenda with Morgan Rogers' name currently one of the names doing the rounds.

Arsenal could spend big on a new attacker

Arsenal's defence is the best in Europe, there is no denying that. However, when it comes to their forward line, they are playing catch up, particularly to fellow Champions League finalists PSG.

The arrival of Rogers would certainly help. Reports this week revealed that Arsenal have opened talks with the player's camp over a prospective move this summer.

However, the Aston Villa forward is set to cost anywhere from £80m to £100m to prise away from the Midlands.

As a result, cheaper players could be on the agenda for the Gunners, notably £60m Rafael Leao at AC Milan and possibly even Manchester United's Marcus Rashford.

The Gunners have spent generously in recent years.

The left winger is a player Arsenal have admired for a while now and they could finally be set to act on their interest in the summer of 2026.

Indeed, according to the Daily Mail, they are one of three Premier League teams to have begun early discussions about signing the England international this summer.

FC Barcelona's Marcus Rashford reacts

Potentially available for as little as £26m, the player's dream is to head back to Barcelona but Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur are also taking an interest.

Why Rashford would be better than Rogers for Arsenal

If Arsenal were able to secure the services of Rogers this summer it would be an almighty coup given the level of interest in his services. Man United and Chelsea are also casting their eyes in his direction.

He is one of the best English talents around, also one of the best forwards in the Premier League.

En route to winning the PFA Young Player of the Season award for 2024/25, the 23-year-old bagged 14 goals and registered 16 assists in all competitions. He's carried on those performance levels in the ongoing season, scoring 14 again and supplying 12 assists.

An attacking midfielder by trade, Rogers can also play off the left but similarly to Eberechi Eze, while he is versatile, the England man is at his best through the middle.

That may well complicate matters. Arsenal already have Eze and Martin Odegaard to play as more of a number 10 while Max Dowman and Ethan Nwaneri are coming through as well.

As a result, signing an out and out winger like Rashford is surely the best port of call this summer. Aged 28 and in his prime, the Man United winger knows his game better than Rogers and even if there would be a lack of sell-on value here, it should not play a factor.

Arsenal need a forward on the left and Rashford could solve plenty of their problems. In 2025/26, one of the biggest areas of concern was on the left flank. Leandro Trossard had failed to score in 25 consecutive matches before netting the winner against West Ham United while Gabriel Martinelli only beat the goalkeeper on one occasion in Premier League action.

In Rashford, they would be signing a goalscorer, a player capable of raising the ceiling of this Arsenal side. While his perfromance levels ended up diminishing at United, he returned to his best on loan at Barca this season.

As the Spanish giants won LaLiga, the Englishman netted 14 times and posted a further 14 assists in all competitions. Described as "one of Europe's most dangerous players" by Xavi and as "one of the best players in the world" by Anthony Gordon, he would be a brilliant cut-price option for Andrea Berta and Co.

He is a player who would require no adaptation time. Rashford has scored 89 Premier League goals in his career, celebrated for being "unstoppable" by Erik ten Hag as a result.

As far as plug and play options go in the market this summer, there are not many better.
