**Andoni Iraola remains heavily linked with a move to Liverpool despite repeated reports that Arne Slot isn’t going anywhere, despite the failures of the 2025-26 season.**
The summer transfer window beckons for clubs seeking improved performance next season, although Liverpool are in a unique position having seen a £460m outlay result in a Premier League finish five positions worse than the season before.
Having gone from Premier League champions to barely scraping qualification for the Champions League, the Reds need to be very careful about how they approach the summer ahead.
While there has been mass speculation over the future of manager Arne Slot, Liverpool are set to retain the Dutchman despite links to the likes of Xabi Alonso and Bournemouth boss Iraola.
Claims from Italy, however, suggest that the Merseyside outfit has been actively seeking information on Iraola amid reports linking the Spaniard with a move to replace Slot in the Anfield hot seat.
Liverpool have made inquiries about Iraola

[Sky Sports Italy](https://sport.sky.it/calciomercato/2026/05/27/iraola-milan-calciomercato-news?social=twitter_skysport_link_null) reports: _“Getting Andoni Iraola’s approval doesn’t seem easy for the Rossoneri. Iraola isn’t open to it at the moment, but Milan isn’t the only club interested in him: two Premier League clubs, Crystal Palace and Liverpool, and one Bundesliga club, Bayer Leverkusen, have also made inquiries about the Bournemouth manager._
_“There is another lead in recent days for the technical direction and it is that of Ralf Rangnick, coach of the Austrian national team who at the moment is therefore not free.”_
Liverpool were extremely poor this season, losing an unprecedented 20 games in all competitions, including 12 in the Premier League.
Alonso joined Chelsea recently when he was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool, but now it appears as though Slot is likely to stay at the club for another season.
While it’s my opinion that it would have been wise to move on from the Dutch coach earlier this season, Liverpool need to back the manager if they are going to keep him.
This means another serious summer in the transfer window to sign the player profiles Slot has regularly stated he needs in order to make Liverpool a success.
