Italian now on Bournemouth’s shortlist – Player interested, €30m needed

Antonio Vergara did well for Napoli in the second half of the season and Bournemouth are interested in the winger.

The Italian has previously attracted attention from West Ham. Some months ago, SportWitness covered how the Hammers put forward an offer for him late in the January transfer window, but this was rejected.

This was shortly after Vergara had scored two goals in a week. One came against Chelsea in the Champions League and the other in a clash with Fiorentina.

However, Vergara’s season pretty much ended. An injury kept him out until the last two games, delaying his progress.

Despite this set back, a switch to Bournemouth could be on the cards.

Player on Cherries shortlist

Il Mattino report the 23-year-old could leave Napoli in the summer. The Partenopei are set to make major changes to their squad and this can lead to the winger’s departure.

He is someone who has attracted a lot of interest too. Bournemouth, specifically, have him on their shortlist for the summer.

Their qualification for Europe will appeal to the player, with Lazio and Atalanta also interested in him.

Vergara’s main priority is to find regular game time. He could get that at Bournemouth while playing in Europe, with Napoli currently demanding €30m to sell their youth graduate.

Napoli looking for exit

It feels like the Partenopei see the summer as a big opportunity to sell Vergara. They have probably noticed how he has hit his peak this season and want to capitalise, knowing that clubs are keen.

Bournemouth could be interested but they can also be among a long list of suitors. Besides, their name is likely getting used by Napoli so that they earn as much as possible from the sale.

Since Vergara is a youth graduate, anything earned goes down as a capital gain.

While the winger has technical ability, he is yet to show it consistently. The injury earlier this season stopped him from showcasing that, which should concern Bournemouth. If Vergara was younger, a move would have made more sense.
