Chelsea 'keen' on stunning Liverpool transfer raid as Newcastle United eye bold first summer…

The latest Premier League transfer news including Chelsea, Man United, Newcastle, Liverpool and more

England has bathed in glorious sunshine these past few days, and the World Cup fever is beginning to rise - despite Thomas Tuchel’s rather left-field squad selection. Beer gardens will come alive once again, as fans descent upon their local to watch the Three Lions in action next month. Apart from if they make the second knockout round, of course, when their fixture could well not kick-off until 2AM BST in the morning. Dressing gowns at the ready.

While we try and map out the logistics of following England on their big North American adventure, there’s also the small matter of the summer transfer window to contend with. With the Premier League season done and dusted, clubs are working frantically to get some early business done in principle before transfers can go through from June 15th onwards.

One transfer saga set to dominate the summer is that of Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, who has enjoyed an impressive rise in stature since moving to the club from Newcastle back in 2024 in a rather unusual deal involving Forest’s Odysseas Vlachodimos which almost certainly didn’t have anything to do with either club’s PSR situation.

Team Talk report that Manchester City have “shifted into overdrive” in their bid to sign the England international, with the club apparently close to striking a deal worth in the region of £100m. It is also stated that contract terms shouldn’t be an issue, with an “agreement in principle already in place”.

The news will come as a blow to both Manchester United and Arsenal, who have also been heavily linked with the 23-year-old sensation. Given that the former are now advancing in their pursuit of Atalanta midfielder Ederson, they may well know it’s game over for their hopes of landing one of their top summer targets.

The 3AM Verdict: Anderson to City now looks to be inevitable, with the club’s seemingly limitless spending power seeing them land yet another marquee signing. He’ll add some serious energy to their midfield, and incoming new boss Enzo Maresca will be delighted to bag such a high profile signing. The big-money Anderson deal also suggests thatEnzo Fernandez may be on the way to Real Madrid, rather than City.

Newcastle United linked with Serie A flop

Over to St. James’ Park next, where Newcastle United are said to be after a footballer whose name will strike fear into the heart of any football journalist: Jonathan David. The Juventus forward was the subject of approximately 43,000,000 transfer stories last summer, as seemingly every top tier football club in Europe looked to get their hands on the in-demand free agent.

After a blistering spell with Lille where he bagged 109 goals and 31 assists in 232 games, he joined Juventus on a free transfer and subsequently flopped like a Yorkshire pudding taken out the oven too early. Given that the Serie A side paid nothing for him, they could now let him go for as little as £22m, according to a fresh report from Italian outlet Tutto Juve. They say Newcastle are now keen on a striking a deal for the Canada international, potentially joining Aston Villa in the race to sign him.

The 3AM Verdict: Newcastle made a real mess of replacing Alexander Isak last summer - there’s simply no margin for error this time around. At £22m, David could be an absolute bargain. If it goes wrong, however, the Magpies will be stuck with another flop on the books. The ‘go tried and tested Premier League quality’ argument doesn’t really work either, however, given how poorly Yoane Wissa has performed after joining from Brentford.

Chelsea boss ‘keen’ on signing Liverpool attacker

We’ll round things off with an utterly bizarre story on Chelsea. Football Insider claim that new manager Xabi Alonso wants to sign Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz this summer, despite the Blues already having Cole Palmer in the same position. They say Chelsea hold a “strong interest” in the 23-year-old, who only just joined the Reds last summer in a £116m deal.

Wirtz didn’t have the best of debut campaigns with Liverpool, but still managed to rack up seven goals and six assists after an impressive resurgence over the winter. The story says the Reds could be willing to sell for the right price, and that if manager Arne Slot stays, Wirtz could seek an exit to reunite with his former Bayer Leverkusen boss at Chelsea.

The 3AM Verdict: Goodness me! We’ve just spotted a pig soaring majestically by 3AM Towers, offering us a fantastic deal on seaside property in Sheffield. This rumour seems like utter nonsense all round. Liverpool wouldn’t want to cut their losses on Wirtz after one fairly underwhelming season and Chelsea would be out of their minds to spend over £100m on a player they simply don’t need.
