Crystal Palace won the UEFA Conference League after beating Rayo Vallecano 1-0 last night.
Oliver Glasner guided the Eagles to the FA Cup title last season, which was their first major trophy of their career. Since then, Crystal Palace won the Community Shield and now a European trophy under his leadership.
The fixture against Rayo Vallecano was the Austrian’s last match with the Premier League side.
They are working on appointing Glasner’s successor and Andoni Iraola is in the running. The latter ended his three-year at AFC Bournemouth and is looking for a new club.
On Wednesday, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that the Eagles made a multi-million-pound offer to the 43-year-old. He also has an offer from AC Milan while Bayer Leverkusen remain keen.
Iraola picks Crystal Palace over Milan
Journalist Daniele Longo took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to report the Spaniard didn’t respond to AC Milan.
At the San Siro, there’s a feeling he ‘will stick to the previously reached agreement’ with Crystal Palace.
Longo insists the manager made his decision on the Eagles based on the ‘project and personal matters’ over ‘money and contract’.
Gazzetta dello Sport report the coach, who’s the first choice for the Rossoneri, is heading to Crystal Palace.
He seems to have decided to accept the London club’s offer over the one made by Milan. The latter sacked Massimiliano Allegri, CEO Giorgio Furlani, directors Igli Tare and Geoffrey Moncada, after failing to qualify for the Champions League.
The Italian club will have a new management, who must build a new project from scratch, which makes the managerial job more complex.
A move to Selhurst Park will see Andoni Iraola continue in the Premier League and his family can stay in England. He can ‘enter the market with an ambitious budget’ and this seems unlikely with the Italian club.
Gazzetta state it’s given Iraola is joining the Eagles, who are likely to announce it as early as Thursday.
Italian media unable to accept decision
The newspaper state: ‘In early 2000s football, no manager would have hesitated between AC Milan, and the 15th placed team in the Premier League.’
Crystal Palace have qualified for the Europa League, after winning the UEFA Conference League. Gazzetta didn’t take this into account.
The feeling is that the Italian media are finding it hard to accept Andoni Iraola favours the Eagles over Milan, who compete for the title.
