Newcastle United have confirmed their pre-season friendly with Everton as the Premier League heads north of the border this summer.

As Chronicle Live reported first on May 13, the two top-flight rivals will do battle at Murrayfield with the fixture taking place amid the backdrop of the 67,144 capacity venue.

A Newcastle statement read: "United will travel to Edinburgh for a pre-season fixture against Everton at the iconic Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium.

"Eddie Howe’s side will take on the Toffees at 5:15pm on Wednesday 12 August, stepping up preparations just days before the 2026/27 Premier League season kicks off.

"Set in the heart of Edinburgh, Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium is the largest stadium in Scotland and one of the UK’s most recognisable sporting venues - with a capacity of 67,144.

"The early evening fixture offers Magpies fans a standout summer away day in the Scottish capital, as match day coincides with the world ‐famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival."

Newcastle head coach Howe said: "An exciting test against Premier League opposition at a historic venue like Murrayfield Stadium will play an important part in our pre -season preparations.

"I’m sure our fans will bring a special atmosphere to Edinburgh for a fantastic summer away day, giving the players a massive lift as we build towards the new campaign."

David Moyes said: "Facing Newcastle United at Murrayfield gives us a valuable opportunity to test ourselves against Premier League opposition as part of our preparations for the new season.

"Pre-season is an important period for the players and staff, and a fixture like this, in one of the most iconic stadiums in the country, will help us continue building towards the start of the campaign.

"Everton has always had a strong connection with Scotland and we know how well our supporters travel, not just from Merseyside but from across the country.

"Edinburgh is a fantastic city and this fixture gives Evertonians the chance to come together, enjoy the occasion and get behind the team in what should be a really good day for everyone connected with the Club."
