Key figures at Juventus are said to be split over the future of Douglas Luiz.

The Brazilian midfielder looks unlikely to be at Aston Villa at the start of next season.

He returned to Villa Park on loan from Juventus in January and the deal included an option for Villa to sign Luiz permanently this summer for €25m.

But he did not reproduce the form of his first spell at the club and so a return to Italy looks to be on the cards for the 28-year-old, although Villa boss Unai Emery said last week he was undecided over Luiz - and fellow loanee Jadon Sancho.

Ahead of Villa’s final match of the Premier League season against Manchester City, Emery was asked if decisions had been made on the two players.

“Not yet,” he said. “Now we are finishing the season. We will reflect and analyse each situation. We will decide it, but not yet.

“I am so, so proud of every player and how they have responded. Now is the moment after Sunday to take decisions how we will continue building and getting our development strongly.

"We are ambitious and everything we did is important to how we can analyse how to get better next year. I only want to improve and get better next year. The decisions we take will be in this direction.”

La Gazzetta dello Sport report Luiz’s expected return to Turin is causing a split between Juventus’ general manager Damien Comolli and manager Luciano Spalletti.

It is said to be viewed as “an additional hassle” by Comolli, who wants to sell Luiz this summer, while Spalletti sees the situation as a potential “opportunity” for Luiz to have a second chance at the club.

Unai Emery and his squad have brought silverware back to Villa Park by lifting the Europa League crown. And to celebrate, the Birmingham Mail have produced this stunning souvenir special edition, charting Villa's path to glory.

It is full of interviews, features, striking images and celebrations as we look back at a season to remember.
