Mike Jackson said he never questioned the professionalism of the Burnley players, despite relegation being confirmed with four games to go.
Jackson was placed in interim charge until the end of the season after a 1-0 defeat at home to Premier League runners-up Manchester City confirmed the club's relegation back to the Championship, and led to the departure of head coach Scott Parker.
Burnley had trips to Leeds United and Arsenal, as well as home games against Aston Villa and Wolves to round off the season.
But rather than take their foot off the gas and ease into the summer, particularly those who are expected to move on in the coming weeks, Jackson insisted he never doubted their work ethic, despite having nothing but the bid to avoid finishing bottom to play for in the last four fixtures.
"Knowing them after working with them for a while, looking at them as they are as people, I'd be really disappointed if they did that, because that's not who they are," said Jackson.
"Obviously we've had to give them a little gee-up as a group, but the lads you're talking about are there, they're stable, they train, they play, they compete."
