Italian icon Fabio Capello has questioned why Andoni Iraola would consider the AC Milan job, offering up hope for Crystal Palace’s chances of luring him.
Corriere della Sera have an interview with the Italian manager today. And he completely dismisses the idea of Iraola heading to Milan this summer.
Crystal Palace push
The Spanish coach is currently one of the hottest managerial options on the market, with his deal at Bournemouth coming to an end this summer.
The race for his signature now appears to be between Milan and Crystal Palace. The Italian giants have, reportedly, put him at the top of their list of options after sacking Massimiliano Allegri.
Crystal Palace, meanwhile, are seeking a replacement for Oliver Glasner. They’ve been making moves for the best part of a month to lure Iraola to London this summer.
Sport Witness covered a report yesterday explaining that Andoni Iraola would choose between the two clubs between Friday and Saturday.
A report this morning then stated that Iraola had an agreement in place with Crystal Palace. The feeling was that they had stepped ahead of Milan, and definitively.
AC Milan not attractive
Capello can certainly see them being a more attractive option. He questions why Iraola would even given Milan the opportunity to present a proposal.
“And why would he want that? His teams play really well; Bournemouth has been a surprise since the start of the Premier League,” he said when discussing that Milan want him, but he doesn’t want Milan.
“Now it’s as if he were singing at La Scala. He’s coaching in England, in the most important tournament of all. And what would he leave for? Unfortunately, we no longer have any appeal.
“Instead, he knows full well that with another positive year like this and some favourable coincidences, he could soon find himself at the helm of a top club fighting for the Premier League title.”
