Chelsea’s on-loan defender Axel Disasi is the latest player to wave goodbye to West Ham.
The Frenchman performed brilliantly for the Hammers after arriving on [transfer](https://www.claretandhugh.info/defender-transfer-west-ham-suffer-brutal-knock-back/) deadline day and played a major role in the team’s defensive improvement during the second half of the season.
There had been hope the former £35 million Monaco defender could join West Ham permanently had the club managed to remain in the [Premier League](https://www.claretandhugh.info/premier-league-bio/).
Unfortunately, Disasi is simply too good to be playing Championship football.
Disasi Bought Into Nuno’s West Ham
----------------------------------
It’s a massive shame given the partnership Axel formed with fellow centre-back Konstantinos Mavropanos.
From the outset, it was obvious he bought into the improved team ethic under Nuno Espírito Santo and full credit to him because Disasi never once played like somebody who was just passing through the football club.
Speaking on social media this evening, Disasi said:
“Thankful to West Ham for everything.
“From day one, you welcomed me as one of your own and gave me your trust, especially during a difficult period in my career. I always tried to give everything of myself every time I wore this shirt, despite the difficult outcome for all of us this season.
“I will always be grateful for the support, the people I met and the moments shared together.
“I wish the club, the fans and everyone around West Ham nothing but the very best for the future. I truly hope the club comes back stronger and competing where it deserves to be.

Chelsea Defender Deserves Better
--------------------------------
Good on him.
Disasi looked as gutted as anybody when the final whistle blew at the London Stadium on Sunday and relegation was confirmed.
I’ve no doubt he’ll secure himself a move this summer and, honestly, he deserves far better than being stuck back in Chelsea’s bomb squad.
