However, the Basque coach has stalled and it seems that talks are now not progressing at all, at least based on reports from various reliable sources. It was thought that he had decided to join Crystal Palace, but now it appears he is waiting for something a bit more ambitious.
This morning, La Repubblica (via MilanNews) have revealed some of the details from the first meeting Iraola had with Milan in London two weeks ago.
The newspaper claim that it lasted over five hours. In the talks, the two sides discussed the possible formation, the transfer business to be done and the atmosphere in which he would be welcomed in Milan.
The initial enthusiasm was dampened by the resistance of the former Rayo Vallecano coach, who is reluctant to leave the Premier League. Not only that, but his family are pushing for him to stay in London, where they live.
