Callum Wilson has dropped the biggest hint yet that he won’t be around for West Ham’s promotion push next season.
The former Bournemouth and Newcastle striker joined the club on a free transfer last summer.
Wilson was forced to settle for limited game time throughout the season, with 21 of his 32 Premier League appearances coming as a substitute.
But he still managed seven goals and one assist, despite struggling to hold down a starting role.
His goals secured seven points for the Hammers and were crucial in them being able to take the relegation battle to the last weekend of the season.
Wilson hints at West Ham exit
Given his goalscoring ability and experience, there was some hope that Wilson might be tempted to hang around for another season, but that no longer looks likely after the striker’s recent post on Instagram.
He said: “It hurts. We have failed as a team and definitely fallen short of everyone’s expectations.
“It was well documented that I had a history with West Ham, yet from the moment I arrived, I felt nothing but welcomed by all the fans here.
“I felt really good and positive coming into this season, and I believe I could have contributed more given the opportunity. As you could see, my time on the pitch was very limited at times, but that was out of my control. I’ve always trained hard, kept my integrity, and given my all whenever I’ve been allowed to wear the iconic Claret and Blue shirt.
“I’m sad and extremely disappointed that it has ended this way. This club deserves so much better because there are so many unbelievable people behind the scenes that you fans don’t always yet to see.
“For now, all I can say is thank you. Thank you to everyone who supported us. Your passion is amazing, and I truly hope you return to the Premier League, where you belong, as soon as possible.”
It’s that last line which gives the biggest hint yet that he doesn’t expect to be at the club by the time the new Championship season kicks off in August.
Does Wilson still eye Premier League 100 Club?
It’s hard to blame Wilson if he doesn’t have much of an appetite to play in the Championship next season.
His seven goals in 2025/2026 took his Premier League career tally to 95, which is obviously within touching distance of a century of strikes in the top flight.
Only 35 players have reached the 100 Club in the Premier League, and it’s likely Wilson wants to see if he can find another opportunity to become the 36th next season by leaving West Ham and putting himself on the market for other top-flight clubs to bring him in.
If he does decide to stay, though, and if he can remain fit, his goal scoring instincts would no be valuable to the Hammers in the Championship next season.
