‘Hot topic’ – Manager keen on signing Wolves player, summer sale on cards

Schalke emerge as an option for Wolverhampton Wanderers‘ Saša Kalajdžić.

The striker spent this season on loan at LASK and managed seven goals and four assists from 27 matches.

Earlier this month, the Wolves man said LASK sporting director Dino Buric was key for his loan transfer. He also opened the door to extend his stay.

He said: “Dino and I are constantly in contact. I came here because of Dino. He was the deciding factor. I don’t know what will happen in the summer. I’m content and living in the here and now.”

However, the Austria international said goodbye to LASK and will return to Molineux where his future remains uncertain.

Schalke offering escape route

Wolves got relegated from the Premier League while the German club returned to the Bundesliga.

Edin Džeko played a key role in Schalke’s promotion, and his contract is until June. It’s unclear whether the 40-year-old sign an extension, but they are keen on signing Wolves’ Saša Kalajdžić.

That’s according to Sport24 in Austria, who report the 28-year-old is a ‘hot topic’ for Schalke’s Austrian manager, Miron Muslić.

The report makes no mention whether the frontman plans to change clubs again or stay at Wolves, who will play in the Championship next season.

Ernst Baumeister, who managed him at Admira Wacker, recently watched Kalajdžić in action against Red Bull Salzburg. The coach changed his role from a defensive midfielder to a striker.

Sport24 end their report by stating he has been asked to change his agent after the World Cup. It’s quite possible Baumeister is the one urging him to take this step.

Our take: Wolves should sell this summer

Wolves signed Saša Kalajdžić from VfB Stuttgart in August 2022, and he picked up an injury on his debut.

That kept him on the sidelines for 275 days before suffering another serious setback in April 2024. This one forced him away from the pitch for 437 days.

The Austrian’s contract expires in 2027, and Transfermarkt value him at €4m. Wolves are most likely to sell him this summer, to avoid losing him for nothing next year.
