Matias Soule can now leave AS Roma and Aston Villa are closest to landing the Argentine.
The versatile winger joined the Giallorossi from Juventus in 2024 for €25.6 million. This came after he spent an impressive loan spell at Frosinone.
He contributed to ten goals in the 2024/25 season but hasn’t hit the same heights for Roma during the last campaign. He has scored six times, assisting five times, but has been hampered by injuries.
This has led to the emergence of Aston Villa’s interest, with SportWitness covering this closely.
It appears as though the Villans’ offer is on the table.
Soule sale important for Roma
Gazzetta dello Sport report Gian Piero Gasperini is keen to bolster his attack in the summer. Roma’s Champions League qualification will help, with Mason Greenwood seen as a key target.
The Italian manager feels the Englishman is an upgrade on Soule, whose output hasn’t last season was disapointing.
That is why his exit will hand Roma the finances to afford the Marseille attacker.
Aston Villa’s concrete offer appears to be on Roma’s table too. They’re the closest to signing him, with the Giallorossi demanding between €35m and €40m to sell the ex-Juventus youngster.
The numbers behind Villans’ offer is unknown but it will help Roma from a FFP perspective too. They need to earn significant capital gains by the end of June and Gasperini would be interested in Soule’s sale.
Working relationship can help transfer
Over the last year, Roma and Aston Villa have developed a very good relationship. It was a deal with the Birmingham club that helped the Italian side find arguably their best transfer in the last two years in Donyell Malen.
That is why it won’t be a surprise if the Villans end up helping Roma by signing Soule.
Since the Giallorossi do have Champions League finances to rely on, they may not object to a discount to sell Soule. Besides, the Argentine had a significant muscle injury earlier this year. That should alarm Aston Villa and make them seek a fee below €40m.
Anything over €20m will hand Roma a capital gain and a chance to sign Greenwood.
