Jhon Lucumi has emerged as a target for Tottenham this week and the player’s agent has now spoken about his future.
Sunderland had stepped forward for the defender last summer. They made a formal offer but Bologna managed to keep hold of the centre-back, who impressed during the last campaign.
Despite their best efforts though, the Rossoblu failed to qualify for European football. This led to SportWitness covering the high possibility of Lucumi’s exit, with Tottenham now monitoring the siuation with the Colombia international.
Lucumi’s agent has now spoken about his client’s future, indicating he is set to leave Bologna.
PL move in the works
Agent Simone Rondanini spoke to Tuttomercatoweb about the 28-year-old, as he addressed Lucumi’s last possible season with Bologna.
He made it clear that the player is disappointed with the failure to qualify for Europe. Despite that, he has grown and improved.
“Obviously, there’s a bit of disappointment, because since he’s been at Bologna, the team has consistently achieved important goals. Personally, though, I think he’s continued to grow, and I think this has been especially evident in the final games of the season.”
The agent was also quizzed about a possible move to England. He clarified that the chapter at Bologna is now probably closed.
While also confirming Sunderland’s approach in 2025, he said: “Bologna is his home. As we know, there were already some significant opportunities last year, but ultimately no agreement was reached. I believe the boy is now ready for a new challenge, so we’ll carefully analyze the market and see if the conditions are right for everyone this summer.”
Attempts for England sale
The centre-back’s agent had tried to force a sale to Sunderland last year. While that didn’t happen, Bologna have been selling their best players to English sides since 2024. The way the Italian press is promoting Lucumi clearly suggests something similar could occur.
Tottenham are about to sign Marcos Senesi and that’s likely to rule out a move for Lucumi. Both are very similar players and at quite the same age, with the Argentine set to arrive at Spurs on a free.
That is why those around Lucumi may need to approach other English clubs soon. This time, his exit would be much more amicable. The player’s contract runs out in 2027 and Bologna would be much more open to a sale.
If he does well at the World Cup, more English clubs could come calling.
