As the countdown to the eagerly anticipated international tournament begins, the transfer rumour mill is rattling along at some pace. Two high profile deals already look set to go through: Liverpool’s Andy Robertson is heading to Tottenham, while Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon looks set to join Barcelona despite being linked with Bayern Munich for the past few weeks.
Let’s begin today’s round-up at the City Ground, where Nottingham Forest are gearing up for another hectic summer of wheeling and dealing. According to Football Insider, the club are on the lookout for a new right-back, and appear to be chasing Galatasaray’s Roland Sallai, who has played a crucial role in his side’s success for the past two title-winning campaigns.
The story suggests that the Turkish giants aren’t at all keen on the prospect of selling the 29-year-old, who has been capped 66 times by Hungary. Reference is made to reports from Turkey on the player’s future, which claim a fee upwards of £21m could be enough to persuade his club to sell, despite their apparent reluctance at present.
The 3AM Verdict: Sallai is a bit of hidden gem, with bags of top flight experience notably in Turkey, Italy and Germany, not to mention a significant amount of international football under his belt. Forest aren’t afraid to spend - they blew around £200m on new signings last season - so the £21m fee shouldn’t be a problem. He’d be an excellent acquisition.
Arsenal ‘step up’ interest in Morgan Rogers
Over to north London, where Arsenal have had to ease off the Premier League title celebrations and get back down to business: they’ve got a Champions League final to prepare for this weekend. Behind the scenes, however, thoughts are very much on the transfer market, and Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers looks to be on their radar.
Team Talk claim the Gunners are ready to battle Chelsea for Aston Villa gem Morgan Rogers, with Mikel Arteta personally approving the pursuit. It’s also suggested that, despite qualifying for the Champions League, the Villans’ financial situation is such that they may struggle to resist a mega-money offer - one over the £100m mark.
The 3AM Verdict: Rogers to Arsenal makes a lot more sense than him joining Chelsea. The Gunners could do with a high quality option in the number ten role, whereas the Blues already have Cole Palmer. However, we have a feeling that Villa might just cling onto Rogers for one more season, with their asking price likely to be astronomical this summer.
Palace and Villa to battle for bargain La Liga gem
Over to Spain to finish things off, where Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness) bring news of a transfer tussle between Crystal Palace and Aston Villa. Real Sociedad goalkeeper Alex Remiro is the player they’re brawling over, who could be let go for as little as £7m. Given the bargain on offer, clubs from Germany and other La Liga clubs are also said to be keen.
The report goes on to specify that Barcelona have taken an interest in the 29-year-old, and note that their sporting director, Deco, has already held talks with an eye to a potential move. Remiro’s contract is set to expire next summer, meaning that his club will likely move him on in the upcoming transfer window to avoid losing him for nothing at the end of the 2026/27 season.
The 3AM Verdict: Aston Villa could well wave farewell to Emi Martinez this summer, and they’ll be on the hunt for a top quality replacement. Remiro is renowned for his excellent distribution skills, and would be a decent, low-cost successor. Given that Crystal Palace already have Dean Henderson, joining Villa as their number one makes a lot more sense.
