Spurs submit offer to sign "England’s Ousmane Dembele", he'd be their new Dele Alli - opinion

Tottenham Hotspur have beaten the pull of relegation from the Premier League, but the hard graft starts now.

ENIC Group came dangerously close to leading Spurs down the wrong tunnel and into the second tier, but Roberto De Zerbi saved them after being appointed during the March international break, constructing the club's finest run of results of the season.

Mistakes have been made. Far too many mistakes for a club of this stature and potential. One year ago, they celebrated newfound status as European champions, but the slightest shift in results over the past several weeks could have hurled the Lilywhites into the Championship.

This cannot happen again. Tottenham need to bounce back, not only next year but for many campaigns to come.

Spurs make approach for world-class prospect

De Zerbi has enjoyed himself at the Tottenham helm, but if ENIC fail to oversee an effective summer transfer window, we could be set for more misery in north London.

Much has been made of the anticipated exodus, and the need for top signings who can make an instant impact at the highest level, but Spurs also need to strengthen their younger ranks, maintaining the identity that has served them so well over the years.

As per TEAMtalk, Tottenham have made an offer to sign Leicester City youngster Jeremy Monga, who is one of the most talented teenagers in the country.

Arsenal are currently confident that they will win the race, but it remains open, with Spurs' rich youth system sure to tempt the 16-year-old into heading to a different district in north London.

Monga has yet to sign a professional contract and is considering a switch following the Foxes' relegation into League One.

Why Monga is perfect for Spurs

Tottenham have made something of a habit of developing young and talented prospects over the past decade.

Harry Kane is the staple, of course, but Monga might more closely align with someone like Dele Alli, who joined the club from League One side MK Dons for £5m in 2015 and went on to become one of the Premier League's greatest wonderkids.

Dele Alli Spurs record (timeless)-1

Monga has a long way to go before he reaches anywhere close to the standard that the England international operated at during those remarkable early years in north London, but he already has a weight of expectation behind him, hailed as "England's Ousmane Dembele" by Como scout Ben Mattinson for his fleet-footed dribbling and underlying physicality, able to take on and defeat older, stronger and more experienced opponents.

One of the most talented out there, Monga would indeed stand a chance of emulating Dele in making the leap from League One (technically) and into the Premier League, with Spurs repeating an old trick in beating top divisional rivals to his signature.

Leicester's disastrous season has seen them fall into the third tier, but Monga was a shining light throughout. The comparison to Paris Saint-Germain's Dembele is a lofty one, but there is a ring of truth to it. Across 27 Championship appearances, he averaged a dribble per game.

A goal and two assists is nothing special on surface value, but statistics like that aren't important, not at this stage. He is simply developing right now, and it says something that he has finished the campaign having burgeoned and attracted the attention of England's elite.

Tottenham could rewrite Dele's story into their history by signing Monga this summer, allowing him to grow into his skin as a Premier League winger and become one of the club's new superstars down the line.

More experienced heads will also be needed this summer, but Monga represents a unique market opportunity that is surely too good to resist.
