The race for a top-six finish went down to the wire but a 2-2 draw at home to high-flying Middlesbrough on the last day meant Wrexham had to settle for seventh position, two points away from the play-offs.
But although the wait goes on to try and reach the top-flight for the first-time in the club's history, captain Hyam says the Reds continue to make progress.
Back in the second tier for the first time in 43 years after securing a record-breaking three successive promotions, Wrexham achieved their highest ever league finish in 2025-26 and they also reached the FA Cup Fifth Round for the first time in 29 years.
"I think the growth's been massive every year for the last five or six years at this club," said Hyam, who is preparing for the World Cup finals in United States, Canada and Mexico thi summer after being named in the Scotland squad.
"It's tough to really speak about it right now because the main feeling is disappointment, but the club's in a good place.
"Towards the end there was a lot of appreciation and applause from the fans, and we gave it right back as well.
"They've been with us every single step of the way and I'd like to think this performance made them proud as well.
"It wasn't to be but the progression's good and it's in a good place."
Hyam, who impressed in his first season with Wrexham after joining from Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers for an undisclosed fee on deadline day in the summer transfer window. enjoyed playing at The Racecourse which he believes became a fortress due to the electric atmosphere created by Reds' fans.
"For any team at any level, you've got to have a solid base at home," added the centre-back.
I feel like we've done that and there's so many good memories as well.
"Even the cup nights here with Nottingham Forest and Chelsea, what amazing nights and I won't ever forget them.
"It's been a really good fortress for us this season. Yes, there's been some tough times as well, but it's always a great atmosphere and I'd just like to thank the fans for creating that atmosphere."
