Hurzeler says Albion got what they needed from top-flight loan deal

Now they will assess the next step for the Italian centre-back after he impressed at Paris FC.

Coppola was a regular, playing 14 games as the promoted French side eased away from any relegation danger in Ligue Un.

He ended the season with an impressive display in a win over neighbours PSG and, after a tough start, generally rated highly.

Coppola had started just two Premier League games in the first half of the season after his summer move from Verona.

He had hoped to improve his World Cup chances by going on loan, although ultimately Italy did not qualify for the finals.

However, it would appear his loan went as planned while, back at his parent club, Jan Paul van Hecke, Lewis Dunk and Olivier Boscagli generally did a good job covering the centre-back berths.

Albion boss Hurzeler sad: “I think he played a good season for Paris FC.

“He played a lot of minutes. That's exactly what we wanted and now we all have to figure out what is the next step, what is best for his improvement, for his development.

“And also what is best for us as a club and therefore we will get in a communication and an exchange with him and then we see what happens.”

Coppola is seen as a player for the future by Albion, who have him under contract until 2030.

They are expected to part company with out-of-contract centre-back Adam Webster and have the extra commitment of European football in the coming season.

Coppola started all four of the cup ties Albion played before his move to Paris, including big tests at Arsenal and Manchester United.
