West Ham needing to fend off others from Mavropanos

**West Ham are likely to face a battle to keep hold of ‘Hammer of the Year’ Dinos Mavropanos this summer.**

The former Arsenal defender last season emerged as one of the most vital players in the squad, having shaken off his unwanted reputation amongst many who was error-prone.

In fact, it wasn’t too long ago that the vast majority of fans would have been happy to see the Greek defender replaced, however he has undoubtedly silenced those critics and is now on the list of players the club are looking to retain this summer, despite relegation.

It is anticipated that clubs will be eyeing the centre back, who’s performances last season saw him rightly handed the Hammer of the Year award.

The West Ham Way Podcast host Dave Walker wants to see Mavro stay in east London, which would no doubt make him one of, or if not the best defender in the Championship.

“After the form he showed in the second half of last season I would love to keep Dinos, he could be a rock for us in the Championship,” stated Walker.

“The trouble it’s winning the Hammer of the Year award is bitter sweet for us, because that also puts him in the shop window.

“Unfortunately, we need money so I’m not sure keeping him is realistic.”
