Aleksandar Stankovic has impressed for Club Brugge and Newcastle United are willing to pay up for the midfielder.
The midfielder played 55 times in all competitions during the 2025/26 campaign, contributing to 14 goals. His impact was especially evident in the Champions League, where he scored twice and assisted just as many times in ten appearances.
Inter Milan have the option to execute their buyback clause for the Serbian in the summer. He would also be available in 2027 but a decision is yet to be made.
This led to SportWitness’ coverage of Newcastle United’s interest, with Arsenal also said to have scouted him.
Out of the two Premier League sides, only the Magpies seem to have progressed in the move.
Final decision yet to be made
Corriere dello Sport go deeper into the midfielder’s situation, noting that he is currently in Milan. This trip was undertaken to review his fitness and hold discussions with Inter about his future at the club.
As things stand, nothing is certain. The Nerazzurri are set to keep Henrikh Mkhitaryan and this may rule out keeping Stankovic beyond the summer.
The 20-year-old knows his future would be subject to offers that land on Inter’s table. This is why Newcastle United are in the picture and they ‘could easily reach €40m’ in the summer, along with Brentford.
Stankovic is keen on having a future at Inter but his situation isn’t simple. He knows he can end up as a third choice and the Italian champions won’t object to his sale in the summer. Everything can come down to Stankovic’s decision in the coming weeks.
Magpies could be a good option for Stankovic
While signing the youngster can be risky for Newcastle United, the same can’t be said for the midfielder. He will get to play in England and potentially seek European qualification next season. There is also a chance he can come in as a replacement for Sandro Tonali and get regular game time under Eddie Howe.
The Magpies would ideally want someone who is well-proven in England. That will make a move for Stankovic risky, especially as he’s never made a first-team appearance in Serie A for Inter.
Besides, a €40m price tag isn’t small by any means and that can heap the pressure on the player’s shoulders.
However, Newcastle United could find room for a discount. Inter’s buyback stands at €25m and anything around €35m will also hand them a hefty capital gain.
