Wolves are set to sign Newcastle United right-back Kieran Trippier to lead their fight to get back to the Premier League.
Wolves are back in the Championship for the first time since 2018 and manager Rob Edwards, who moved to Molineux in November, is tasked with putting a squad together to try to make sure it is a short stay in this division.
They flexed their muscles last week by tying down 24-year-old Brazil midfielder Andre to a new four-year contract and now they are trying to signal their intent in the transfer market.
Sky Sports claims that they have beaten competition to sign former England defender Trippier, aged 35, on a two-year contract, with the option of an extra year.

"Trippier was said to have interest from a number of clubs but he has chosen to move to the West Midlands to try and spearhead their immediate return to the Premier League following relegation to the Championship this season," reports ChronicleLive.
Trippier has spent four-and-a-half years at Newcastle and made 37 appearances in the season just finished, including 18 Premier League starts.
Wolves largely used Jackson Tchatchoua at right wing-back or veteran Matt Doherty at right-back while two-time Stoke City loanee Ki-Jana Hoever was sent on loan to Sheffield United.
The Championship summer transfer window doesn't officially open until mid-June but Stoke's early business in the last couple of years has invariably been their best, signing Viktor Johansson and Sorba Thomas in 2024 and 25 respectively.
It will be interesting to see the recruitment tactics of Wolves and West Ham as they fall back to this level after decent stays in the top flight.
Stoke got their transfers badly wrong in the summer of 2018 when they gave Gary Rowett a warchest to try to make sure they bounced back to the Premier League. Expensive incoming flops meant they wasted their best chance of winning promotion while in receipt of parachute payments.
Championship clubs have voted to change the financial rules from this summer window and adopt a system of squad cost ratio rather than profit and sustainability.
