West Ham will let player go for ‘a low fee’ – No longer plan to use him

West Ham United are willing to let Niclas Füllkrug leave the club for ‘a low fee’ this summer as they’re no longer planning with the 33-year-old.

Sky Sports Germany report on the striker today, who is set to return to London Stadium from an unsuccessful loan spell at AC Milan.

€3m gross wages at West Ham

The website reports that this season has been a ‘particularly bitter’ on for Niclas Füllkrug, who had to deal with injury woes, missing out on the Champions League, relegation with West Ham and missing out on the World Cup with Germany.

Milan are not using a €5m option to sign him permanently. And although he is under contract with West Ham until 2028, he has no future with the Hammers either.

West Ham ‘no longer plan’ to use the 33-year-old striker, primarily for cost reasons. He currently earns over €3m gross at the London Stadium. That’s financially incompatible now that they are a Championship side.

Füllkrug wants to leave and move elsewhere. Clubs from Italy, Spain and MLS are interested in him. There’s also interest in the Bundesliga. Werder Bremen are considering brining him back and initial talks have taken place.

West Ham agreement

An agreement with West Ham would have to be found. They would be willing to let Füllkrug go ‘for a low fee’.

A separate report this week stated that the Hammers could even let the veteran striker go on a free transfer via a severance package.

Either way, the growing belief in Germany is that Niclas Füllkrug’s time at West Ham is over. That’s hardly surprising after an injury hit period at the club. That’s seen him miss 30 games due to various injuries.

Now that they need to cut costs, it appears that he’s at the top of the list of those they want to move on.
