Huge price tag reportedly put on ex-Owl
Former Owl Shea Charles is being linked with a big money move to Manchester United.
The 22-year-old made 44 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday in the 2024/2025 season in the Championship, winning the player of the year award, after joining on loan from Southampton, who were then in the Premier League.
The Northern Ireland international impressed hugely and was a fan favourite during his time at Hillsborough. Wednesdayites have continued to think highly of him and have been tracking his progress as he makes great strides in his career. He is one of the best loan signings they have made in modern times. Charles enjoyed his time at the club and was in the away end at Leicester City this season to watch his brother Pierce play.
Unfortunately, a permanent move to S6 was never realistic, so he returned to his parent club Southampton. He showcased his talent once again as the Saints secured a top-six spot and reached the FA Cup semi-final, with Charles scoring the winner against Arsenal in the previous round.

Southampton will be playing in the Championship again next season, though, after they were thrown out of the play-offs following ‘spygate.’ This means some big clubs are eyeing some of their stars and Charles is reportedly one of them.
The central midfielder is attracting interest from Manchester United as manager Michael Carrick aims to rebuild his side after qualifying for the Champions League. According to the Daily Mail, Southampton have priced him at a huge £30m. He is under contract at the south coast club until next summer. He signed a four-year deal when he joined from Manchester City.
During his time at S6, former Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri infamously announced at a fans’ forum that Charles had been recalled from his loan by Southampton, just moments after saying confidently that he did not think he would be. Chansiri left the room after taking a phone call before wandering back in to deliver the bad news. In the end, Charles came back to Wednesday on loan later that month and finished out the season with them.
