Anthony Gordon is no longer a Newcastle United player after completing his big-money move to Barcelona.
Newcastle United have confirmed Anthony Gordon’s £70million transfer to Barcelona.
A fast-paced deal has concluded at breakneck speed following the Premier League season. Just five days ago, Gordon was an unused substitute as the Magpies lost 2-0 to Fulham on the final day.
Barca and Newcastle struck a deal on Thursday, with the winger flying to Catalonia yesterday to complete a medical. All formalities were passed and he is now officially a Blaugrana, ending three-and-a-half years at St James’ Park.

Anthony Gordon farewell message
“I’ve loved every single minute of playing for Newcastle, being a part of Newcastle,” he told the club website. “It’s an incredible club. One I’ll never forget and I’ll be a fan for the rest of my life. I love St James’ Park so much, I love playing there. We’ve had so many amazing nights, so many big wins.
“I think the energy, the fans… it’s been so iconic for me. I’ve thoroughly loved every moment playing there. From my first day, the people took to me straight away when we didn’t have to. I’ll never be able to say thank you enough, but thank you very much.”
Anthony Gordon’s journey at Newcastle United
Newcastle paid £40million to sign Gordon from Everton in January 2023 - plus an additional £5million in add-ons. He endured a testing start, admitting that he was not suited to Eddie Howe’s rigorous training methods.
However, Gordon enjoyed his best season in professional football the following year, registering 28 goal contributions across all competitions to be crowned the club’s player of the season. His finest hour came in the Carabao Cup semi-final legs against Arsenal, scoring home and away to help Newcastle reach the Wembley showdown.
He was suspended for the final and, in truth, Gordon never recaptured the same form despite becoming a regular England international. The 25-year-old leaves the Magpies with 39 goals and 28 assists in 152 appearances, with the Nou camp giving him the perfect stage to prove his world-class credentials.
