It’s shaping up to be an enthralling contest in Budapest, with Luis Enrique’s all-action entertainers taking on a ruthlessly disciplined Mikel Arteta side notorious for their ability to grind out big results.
Meanwhile, the summer transfer window is just over two weeks away, and Premier League clubs are already making moves behind the scenes to get deals in place before the 2026 World Cup. Tottenham have been the most active so far, and appear to have already secured deals for both Liverpool’s Andy Robertson and Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi.
We begin today’s round-up at Everton, where the Toffees will be looking to improve next season after running out of steam towards the end of the 2025/26 campaign. Left-back looks likely to be an area they will look to strengthen, and Football Insider claim they’ve taken a shine to West Ham United’s El Hadji Malick Diouf.
The report says that the Toffees are keen to capitalise on the Irons’ need to sell multiple players after their relegation was confirmed on the final day of the season, but could miss out as the east London side look to make a significant profit on the £19m they spent to sign him last summer. He’s set to star at the World Cup next month with dark horses Senegal.
The 3AM Verdict: After blowing their chances of European football for next season, Everton won’t have millions to spend this summer. They’ll need to manage their budget carefully, but with a couple of sales, they could find the money necessary to land Diouf. He was one of the few decent West Ham players last season, and would undoubtably improve David Moyes’ side.
Arsenal join Fernandez transfer race
Over to north London next where Arsenal are rumoured to be taking an interest in Chelsea’s wantaway midfielder Enzo Fernandez. The Argentina international is expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, and has previously been heavily linked with both Man City and Real Madrid. However, City now look to be going for Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, while questions remain over whether the Los Blancos could afford Chelsea’s asking price.
Caught Offside report that while the Gunners’ midfielder transfer priority is Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali, the club are keeping tabs on Fernandez’s situation at Chelsea. That’s as far as the report goes in terms of detailing Arsenal’s interest, although it is suggested that the Gunners “have been warned” that the Blues’ £100m+ valuation makes it a risky bit of business. Fernandez would certainly add a new dimension to Arsenal’s midfield, and could thrive in a more advanced role where he’d most likely be deployed. Still, we reckon he’ll end up at Real Madrid, who always find a way of getting their man.
Newcastle United hunt for new Gordon
Over to Tyneside to round us off, where Newcastle United are on the hunt for their Anthony Gordon replacement. The England international is set to swap St. James’ Park for the Camp Nou - this is bad news for Barcelona loanee Marcus Rashford - which means the Magpies will have a gaping hole on their left flank they’ll need to fill.
According to Team Talk, Newcastle have set their sights on Real Betis winger Abde Ezzalzouli, who was in sensational form last season, blitzing his way to 14 goals and nine assists in all competitions. He’s also set to play for Morocco in this summer’s World Cup, which will only see the list of interested clubs grow.
The report notes that the 24-year-old has been on the Magpies’ radar for some time, and that the club have already made contact with his club to sound them out over a potential deal. It’s stated that the player has a £52m release clause, and that he’s eager to move to the Premier League. Newcastle, in particular, are deemed a desirable next club option.

Ezzalzouli looks to be a top talent, and has also attracted attention from big name clubs in Europe. £52m is a big old fee, but if Newcastle can convince Betis to sell for below this figure, then they’re onto a winner here.
