Bruno Guimaraes unrecognisable - Newcastle United supporters howl at new ‘charva’ look

Bruno Guimaraes has ditched the iconic goatee as Brazil aim to end a 24-year wait without lifting the World Cup.

Bruno Guimaraes has shaved his iconic goatee and Newcastle United supporters are reacting in their thousands on social media.

The Toon skipper became a firm fan favourite on day one following his £35million move in January 2022. Guimaraes has given the prime years of his career to help the Magpies qualify for two Champions League campaigns and win the Carabao Cup.

He is currently away with the Brazil camp, who have linked up early ahead of the World Cup. Carlo Ancelotti’s men are aiming to end a 24-year drought without lifting football’s most prestigious prize.

Bruno Guimaraes new look

A defining aspect of Guimaraes’ time on Tyneside has been his unique facial hair. However, shaking things up for the World Cup, the 28-year-old has adopted a clean-shaven look.

Newcastle fans were quick to post their witty replies once an image surfaced on social media. One supporter wrote “radgie Bruno” as he sported a Nike tracksuit to match his baby-faced appearance.

Another clip showed close friend and Brazil teammate Lucas Paqueta appearing to jokingly mock Guimaraes. If there are any Portuguese speakers out there, feel free to translate in the comments below!

Bruno Guimaraes emotional message

“Being present at another World Cup is the possibility of looking back and knowing that everything was worth it,” Guimaraes wrote on social media after making the Brazil squad. “Remembering every match I went to with my father and mother on the courts of Rio de Janeiro. The memory is vivid in this moment of emotion.

“The strength of my parents in letting me go live my dream in Sao Paulo, alone, with Audax. Later, living my dream at Athletico, Lyon, Newcastle and the national team.

“I am happy and grateful to have lived each moment. I would do it all again. In the same way. Let's, once again, live the great dream. Since I was little, young man, I said I would get there.”
