Wolves have beaten a number of clubs to the signature of a former England right-back as the Championship side look to make an immediate return to the Premier League

The challenge facing Derby County's bid to win promotion to the Premier League has been laid bare once again after Wolves agreed a deal to sign Newcastle United captain Kieran Trippier.
Wolves are hoping to return to the Premier League at the first attempt following relegation to the Championship and have made good use of their parachute payments by moving for Trippier yesterday.
The West Midlands club find themselves back in the Championship for the first time since 2018, with manager Rob Edwards, who took charge at Molineux in November, tasked with assembling a squad capable of ensuring their stay in the second tier is brief.
The club demonstrated their ambitions last week by securing 24-year-old Brazil midfielder Andre on a new four-year deal, and they are now looking to further signal their intentions in the transfer market.
Sky Sports reports that Wolves have seen off rival interest to land former England defender Trippier, 35, on a two-year contract, with the option of an additional year.
"Trippier was said to have interest from a number of clubs but he has chosen to move to the West Midlands to try and spearhead their immediate return to the Premier League following relegation to the Championship this season," reports ChronicleLive.
Trippier has spent four-and-a-half years at Newcastle, making 37 appearances in the recently concluded season, including 18 Premier League starts.
During their relegation campaign, Wolves predominantly deployed Jackson Tchatchoua at right wing-back or veteran Matt Doherty at right-back, while two-time Stoke City loanee Ki-Jana Hoever was sent out on loan to Sheffield United.
It will be intriguing to observe the recruitment strategies of Wolves and West Ham as they return to this division following respectable spells in the top flight.
Championship clubs have voted to amend the financial regulations from this summer window, adopting a squad cost ratio system rather than the profit-and-sustainability model.
